Badge Board: The Badge Board Host reaches out to people in the Narthex with a warm greeting and the gentle inquiry, “Would you like a Name Badge? Let me make one for you, and when you leave church today, put it in the basket on this table, and one will be made for you next week!” Some people welcome help finding their name tag on the Board, also. Bettina Blake, Coordinator. Greeters: Greeters stand in the Narthex and offer a smile, a cheery “Good Morning” and a handshake (for ones who wish it) to those who are entering. Instructions will be received with the quarterly schedule, and the Head Usher for the day is available for any questions that come up. Welcomers: Welcomers wear large, bright orange badges that say “Can I help you?” On warm Sundays, two Welcomers stand outside offering a first word of welcome to one and all. After worship, both Welcomers circulate in Gordon Chapel during the Fellowship Hour. Bill Adams, Coordinator. Worship 11:00 Ushers: This important role of welcoming people and helping the worship service to run smoothly requires some training and a warm smile. Ushers arrive at 10:15 to receive instructions about the order of service from the head usher. Ushers also stay for about 15 minutes following the service to help clean up the sanctuary or to help count the offering. Those who are new to ushering will receive instructions with the quarterly schedule, and the head usher will gladly provide on the job training. Counting: Counters contribute to hospitality two ways—counting people and counting cash! The counter checks in with the head usher before the service. Attendance is counted from the rear balcony during the service. It takes about five minutes and gives one a new and interesting view of the sanctuary. Then, after the service, the counter and one usher help the Pledge Secretary count and verify the cash portion of the offering. It takes only a few minutes. Training is given by the coordinator, Karen Hand. Fellowship Hosts: Each Sunday, five people are asked to provide food. Each one should bring enough to serve 45-50 people. It can be baked goods (homemade or store-bought), fruit, cheese & crackers, etc. Four are needed to pour coffee, tea and juice. Often people both provide food and serve—but you may wish to do just one. The tables are arranged and coffee is prepared by the Parish Assistant. Robin Briggs, Coordinator. |
