What's Happening Here and Now

at Old South: a Snapshot

Last Updated: March 12, 2010

  • Get Connected! Saturday, March 13, 10 am - 1 pm,  and Monday, March 15, 6 - 9 pm.
New to Old South Church? If so, you are warmly invited to attend one of the two 3-hour Spring Connection Classes offered in March led by Old South clergy. It's a great way to meet others, learn about Old South’s rich history, and explore the church’s many programs. Contact Rev. Liz Myer Boulton at <ejmyer@oldsouth.org> for more details.
  • Spring Forward! Don't forget to set your clocks AHEAD ONE HOUR on Saturday night for Daylight Savings Time!
  • It looks as if we will need adjust to yet another growth spurt: Old South will now schedule two identical Maundy Thursday Worship services, April 1st, both in the Gordon Chapel, at 6pm and 8pm. Click here for Holy Week Schedule.
  • Sunday’s Bread Utensil Drive: Old South Church is running a “Utensil Drive” each Sunday during March for Sunday’s Bread. They are in desperate need of sturdy kitchen utensils (serving spoons, ladles, carving forks, whisks, spatulas and knives* (serrated and non-serrated). They also need an electric knife sharpener. There is a box in the Gordon Chapel for donations. (Please leave all knives with the Front Desk.)
  • A new potluck group has just been announced, the "North of Boston Potluck." Their first gathering will be this Friday (TONIGHT!) on March 12th at 6:30pm in Melrose. Click here for more details.
  • You may also be interested in the "Who is God?" Lenten program at our neighbor St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral (Tremont St.) on Thursdays at noon. Rev. Nancy Taylor will be speaking on March 18th. Click here for more details and full schedule.
  • What’s a Sermon Worth These Days? At the Fall Benefit Auction, among the items that attracted the liveliest and highest bidding was the right to name the text or biblical theme of a sermon to be preached by Senior Minister Nancy Taylor. In the end, two bidders (Minister of Music Harry Huff and Trustee David Vogan) won that right. On Valentine's Day, February 14th  during the 11 am  Festival Worship Service,  Nancy preached "Harry's Sermon": Beloved in Christ (based on John 13).... And on March 21st, she will preach “David' Sermon.” Curious about the theme and text? Curious as to whether auctioned sermons sound different, are more efficacious, or otherwise other? You know what to do. See you in church!
  • If you'd like to make a donation that will go directly to helping the relief efforts for the victims of the Haiti earthquake, you can go to Old South's Online Giving site and pick  "One Time Donation" and you will see an option for Haiti Relief. Thank you for caring.
  • Rolling Food Drive: This month, we are collecting plain or instant OATMEAL.
  • We are open seven days a week free to the public. No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.
