Minister
of Music
Update as 6/1/2007:
May 1, 2007 - Due to
medical reasons,
Mark A. Anderson has tendered his resignation and will not be assuming
Old South's Minister of Music position this summer as planned. Council
has appointed an ad hoc committee to study our options on proceeding
from this point.
May 14, 2007 - The Ad
Hoc Committee decides to extend Brian Jones' interim contract one last
time until October 28 to buy us time to investigate and propose how to
proceed. Best case scenario: we identify a candidate to begin in the
fall. Next best case: we identify a candidate to begin after Christmas.
Third best case: we identify a candidate to begin after Easter.
During the time afforded by Brian's willingness to extend his service
through October we will: 1) hear from the
disbanded Minister of Music Search Committee, 2) pursue key allies in
strategically located positions who might
recommend excellent, well-suited candidates, 3) determine the best
process given the input we receive, 4) pray that God will provide.
The Minister of Music Search Committee is proud to introduce the
candidate we have identified as our hands-down, number-one top choice
to serve as the next Minister of Music of Old South Church in Boston:
Mark Anderson.
The congregation is invited to meet Mark Anderson at an Organ
Demonstration and Conversation in the Sanctuary, followed by a Dessert
Reception in Gordon Chapel on Tuesday, February 6th at 7 pm.
For the Choir, Old South Ringers, and Music Committee: you are invited
to meet and greet Mark at a special pre-reception at 6 pm. A light
supper is included.
The Church Council will consider and vote on the recommendation of the
Minister of Music Search Committee at their meeting on February 13.
[The Council has unanimously approved Mark A. Anderson as our new
Minister of Music at its Feb. 13 meeting.]
Since 1996 Mark A. Anderson has served as the Organist/Choirmaster
at
the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia. He is the
principal organist and conductor for all church ensembles including:
The Gallery Choir (a semi-professional choir), choirs for children and
youth, and the Adult Handbell Choir. In addition, since 2004, he has
served as the Music Director and Conductor of the Pennsylvania
Girlchoir (100 girls in grades 3-12 from diverse economic and
racial-ethnic backgrounds). A composer, arranger, and performer of
sacred music, Mark has national and international experience as a
performer, teacher, lecturer, and choir director.
