Harry Huff

HARRY HUFF NAMED NEW MINISTER OF MUSIC
        Wed, 12 Sep 2007

Dear Old South Community,

Last night the Church Council voted unanimously to hire Harry Huff to become the next Minister of Music of Old South
Church in Boston.

Over these last months of heavy activity on the part of the ad hoc Minister of Music Search Committee we met or spoke
with about two dozen wonderful candidates who had been recommended to us by many sources. In the end we brought
three to Old South to candidate and each was all and more than we had hoped. Each earned his or her own fan club
among the congregation.

In forming our final recommendation to Council, our committee endeavored to hear and understand all the comments
(observations, plusses and minuses) that came our way. Perhaps reflecting the quality of the choice, each candidate had
supporters feeling he or she would be the best choice - often for remarkably overlapping reasons. For the Committee
and for the congregation as a whole, the person who was perceived to be just the right fit and to have the greatest
immediate impact on our whole music program and our worship life together was Harry.

Harry will officially join us on January 2nd. Before then he will also lead both Christmas Eve services (with rehearsals),
another fall Sunday yet to be selected, and he will play our three First Night concert. This is an exciting next step for Old
South, our worship life as a congregation, our choir and the music program. Harry has much to offer us as a person, a
leader and a musician.

Brian Jones' last Sunday at Old South will be October 28th. We are still in process of determining how to fill the organ
console and choir director's position for November and December.

God is good and we are blessed.

The Rev. Nancy S. Taylor
Senior Minister
Old South Church in Boston

The Ministry of Music at the Old South Church in Boston

The ministry of music at the Old South Church in Boston seeks to glorify God through creative interpretation of the
Church’s musical literature; the use of aesthetic means and vehicles to mediate and present the grace and grandeur of God;
and the participation of women and men of Old South and beyond, using their own considerable gifts to celebrate,
worship and magnify this God of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The ministry of music at Old South is centered on the Sunday morning service and other church festivals in
which organ, choir, soloists and instrumentalists provide musical and liturgical leadership for the worship of God
and the spiritual edification of God’s people gathered at the Old South Church.  Old South also offers to the community
a musical program that reflects our mission, through seasonal vespers concerts, organ recitals
and other musical presentations on Sunday afternoons or weekday evenings.
