First Worship at Old South is a vibrant blend of old and new, spirit and tradition, seeking and questioning, toe-tapping bluegrass and hand-clapping gospel, silent prayer and stirring preaching.
The moment you pass through the stone arches of the Chapel, you’ll notice the warmth of the people (from all walks of life), the quality of the music (from piano to banjo), the passion and immediacy of the preaching (exploring biblical wisdom and everyday good news), the openness of the communion table (all are welcome at God’s feast) – and through it all, an eye toward the benediction – the sending forth – a recognition that the reason we gather together is to be sent out again into the world, refreshed in spirit, inspired to become more like Christ, and emboldened to be part of the renewal of God’s creation.
For those who love to sing, one of the sparkling jewels of First Worship is our weekly Pick-Up Choir. Every Sunday at 8:30 AM, all who are interested are invited to learn and rehearse a simple, excellent song, which then is featured in that morning’s First Worship Service. Perfect for anyone who wants more singing in their life, but can’t attend a weeknight rehearsal.
Come join us at First Worship! Full of people of all ages, including young families, couples, and single people, this short service (40-45 minutes) is full of God’s love, hope, beauty, and justice. Childcare and Sunday School are both available, but children are warmly invited and encouraged to stay in the Chapel with their families for the entire service.
Worship services and events at Old South Church are sometimes photographed and recorded to document the vibrant life of our church. If you do not wish to be included in these recordings, please notify an usher.
