CODA May Season Finale
Please join us for CØDA’s 2018-2019 season finale concert! We are incredibly excited to be presenting this program as a culmination of our inaugural season. This concert contains three incredibly different pieces of music, each of which represents aspects of CØDA’s goals and mission.
The first half of the program will contain our second commission, the world premiere of Tim Kwasny’s Kinematic, for bassoon and ensemble. Kwasny’s work transcends many musical boundaries and creates incredibly impactful experiences. He is particularly interested in creating musical performances centered around community soundscapes.
Our second piece, Twylle, was composed by living Boston composer Marti Epstein in 1999. Epstein’s music is highly praised for its innovation and complex sonic structuring. Deriving its name from the fabric, Twylle focuses on the weaving of textures, in order to create new and complex layers of sound.
Ending the program is Arnold Schoenberg’s towering Chamber Symphony No. 1, a devilishly complex piece written before his transition into freely atonal composition. Schoenberg’s influence on music of the 20th and 21st century cannot be understated. As a composer who’s work can be aurally hard to comprehend (especially for first time listeners), we hope to show how incredibly beautiful this tonally stretching music can be.
