With the aid of many hands, the Congregational Care and Support Team reaches out with a pastoral ministry of prayers, love and support for members and friends of Old South Church in times of need. Listed here are the ministries where you can find support or volunteer to provide encouragement to others.
Members of the Call Crew are in regular contact with church members who may be homebound, advanced in age, or otherwise unable to attend regularly or remain in contact with the church.
The Card Crew regularly gifts OSC members and friends with hand-written cards with a multitude of concerns and wishes – sympathy, recovery, encouragement, birth, marriage, retirement, moving, work accomplishments and awards, and more.
The Food Crew provides prepared meals for people in times of loss, household disruption or medical needs. Meals are also provided for families for (on?) the birth/adoption of children.
Prayer Shawls are knitted by the Old South Knitters and Prayer Shawl Crew and are available on request.
The Caregivers’ Support Group meets on the second Tuesday of the month. This gathering for sharing and support is open to members and friends of Old South serving as caregivers to others. If you are interested in attending please contact Rev. Katherine Schofield (email@example.com).
The Congregational Care and Support Team also provides assistance and encouragement in other ways like providing rides as needed to appointments and church-related activities, celebrating birthdays – with cake and singing! – on the last Sunday of the month during Coffee Hour, and distributing wallet-sized OSC Emergency Contact cards that provide contact information for members’ family and friends, as well as how to notify Old South Church in case of emergency.
Members and friends of Old South Church who are in need of support or who know of members in need, are encouraged to send that information to firstname.lastname@example.org. This information reaches the ministers and Congregational Care and Support Committee Chair, enabling the team to respond.
The spirit of God is alive and working in our world. As faithful Christians, we desire to live out the commandment to love one another. As responsible and caring members, we can expand the ministry of Old South Church by serving members and friends of our church and of our community. Caring is at the heart of our faith, and we seek to live out that call responsibly, with compassion, with commitment and with joy.
