Old South Church announces 2016 year-end grant recipients

Every year, Old South Church gives away $100,000 to support organizations doing amazing work, building up the beloved community and gladdening God’s heart. The 2016 grant recipients are:

Smart From the Start  Partnering with laundromats, barber shops, restaurants, and other community gathering spots, Smart From the Start provides enriching children’s activities in places where people already gather.

Common Cathedral  A church of, by, and for unhoused people in Boston. Volunteering with Common Cathedral opens hearts and transforms how people experience our unhoused neighbors.

City Mission Boston  A radical, life-changing arm of the church, City Mission’s homelessness prevention program “A Lift Up” partners with mothers with young children in danger of losing their housing. Each year 30 families who would otherwise become homeless remain in their own housing.

Casa Myrna  Domestic violence affects women of all ages and circumstances. Casa Myrna’s Teen Parenting Program is a confidential shelter for teen mothers and their children who are survivors of domestic violence.

Allston Brighton Food Pantry  Serving some of Boston’s neediest people, those for whom keeping food on the table is a daily struggle. Old South Church is deepening a long partnership, purchasing and installing new appliances.
