This is a virtual event held on Zoom - click here to join (passcode 733494) on Monday, November 4, 2024. To RSVP or for information please email: David O’Malley - G(RACE) Speaks Committee Member (domalley@bridgew.edu).

Scripture encourages and challenges us to care for and do justice to the stranger or sojourner in our community. It also reminds us that our forbearers (and many of us) have been strangers wandering in search of lands to dwell in safety.

You shall also love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Deuteronomy 10:19

Do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none devise evil against another in your heart.
Zechariah 7:9-10

I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.
Matthew 25:35

Old South Church (G)race Speaks invites you to prayerfully consider the experiences of neighbors, especially those who identify as Haitian or Haitian-American in Massachusetts and how we can more actively engage as neighbors in solidarity, support and welcome for all God’s children. Recent political rhetoric on race and immigration has created a hostile and unhealthy environment, leaving many neighbors to feel at risk and unwelcome.  As we do our “soul work” we will be joined by a guest/student currently enrolled in a social work program who will offer her lived experience and perspective from Haitian and Haitian-American communities.

The four short resources linked below will serve as the basis of our conversation and future prayerful action:
