Marathon Sunday

BLESSING OF THE ATHLETES
on Marathon Sunday

April 14, 2024 at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.

Join us for our annual Marathon Sunday worship services, featuring the Blessing of the Marathon Athletes and Highland Cathedral for bagpipes, drum, and organ. As the “Church of the Finish Line,” we salute one of the oldest and greatest races in the world. Marathoners join us for worship, where we pause to acknowledge the runners, their families, and volunteers. We'll ask God to bless them, to keep them safe from injury and harm, and pray, in the words of the prophet Isaiah, that they may "run and not grow weary, walk and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31).

Can't make it in person? You can tune into the live stream at 9am and 11am on Vimeo, YouTube or Facebook.

A Message from our Church Administrator:

Dear Church,

I'm writing to remind you that this Sunday is the day before the Boston Marathon! Driving to church will be a little more difficult this Sunday. Our block of Boylston will be closed, along with Dartmouth from St. James to Boylston. Parking around Copley Square will be very difficult.

So - plan a little more time to get to church. Approach the Prudential and Clarendon garages from the other (Huntington) side. Better yet - take the T if you can! Subway stops will be open, with the exception of the Copley Green Line T-Stop.

We will have services at 9am, 11am, and 1pm. We will also host a 0.5 mile Old South Fun Run at 10am. We will have bagpipes playing Highland Cathedral. We will have hundreds of athletes looking to us for that special blessing before they begin their 26.2 mile trek. We are very excited!

Our final note: the Boston Police Department and Boston Athletic Association will finish the barricade in front of our building at 3 PM on Sunday. All church folks must be out of the building and on their way by this time. We appreciate your help with this matter.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to 617-536-1970 or amelia@oldsouth.org. Good luck to those who are running on Monday in this wonderful event!

Happy Marathon Sunday,
Amelia Gerrard
