Announcing the Interim Senior Minister

Dear Old South Community,

On behalf of Council and the Interim Team, we are very happy and excited to share the news that the Rev. Dr. Richard E. Spalding (Rick) has accepted the unanimous call to serve Old South Church as Interim Sr. Minister. Rick's first day among us will be Sunday, June 5.

Several of you know Rick already, whether through your participation in the all church retreat last fall, his occasional visits to worship among us, or through other connections. He brings a depth of wisdom and experience, genuine warmth, and a supportive and consensus-building style to his calling.

Rick has been called to support us, the entire Old South Community, in advancing our existing mission and programs to live and promote Christ's radical ministry of justice, love, and mercy, and to lead the congregation through the sorrow and anxiety of one chapter ending toward openness, readiness, and hope-filled expectation for the next chapter God calls us to begin. He will, no doubt, draw upon his 18 years as head of the Chaplain's Office at Williams College, most recent service as Interim Sr. Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, MI, and a myriad of other personal and professional experiences gathered from a rich life of service to God and God's creation.

We look forward to sharing more about Rick and our plans to welcome him into our family of faith in the coming days.

God is good!

Sincerely,

Phil Stern, Moderator
