Fear Not: A Christian Response to a Season of Strife

War. Grief. Anxiety. Death. Open the paper or tune into the news and you will see more fear and foreboding than merry and bright. This Advent, we find a way through the gloom and doom of our present world by watching in hope for the coming of the Prince of Peace and holding fast to the promises of God's nearing reign. Join us as we journey thorugh this season together, and consider attending one of our many special Advent events.

COMMUNITY HOUR SERIES: ADVENT THROUGH THE ARTS
Sundays at 10 a.m. in Mary Norton Hall

• 12/1 Visual Arts - Join us this first Sunday of Advent as we prepare for the mystery of Christmas by exploring paintings and sculpture.
• 12/8 Advent Poetry Fest - Read your favorite poem or prose selection: serious, humorous, or thought provoking, that sheds light on the season. Don't want to read? Come anyway to listen to Old Southers share their favorites. Coffee and pastries will be served!
• 12/15 Dramatic Arts - Dramatic arts have been central to celebrations of Advent for hundreds of years. Learn more about ancient and modern theatrical presentations of the Christmas story -- and more.
• 12/22 A History of Holiday Music - Learn the hidden stories behind your favorite Christmas Carols.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR & COOKIE WALK
Saturday, December 7th, 9:30 a.m.– 3:30 p.m. in Gordon Chapel
Thirty New England artists will vend their creative offerings in pottery, knits, photography, fine art, jewelry, blown glass, beeswax candles, turned wood, and more!
Cookie Walk Bakers Needed: Drop off homemade cookies for the Craft Fair on Dec. 6th, or before 9 a.m. on Dec. 7th. Email Adriana at zuzus-petals@juno.com to participate.

ADVENT CAROLS & POTLUCK LUNCHEON

OLD SOUTH RINGERS CONCERT
Sunday, December 8th, 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at Old South Church
Ring in the holidays with our annual Old South Ringers handbell concert. Under the direction of Peter Coulombe, this festive, free concert is a ball...or a bell!

COMMUNITY CHANUKAH CELEBRATION
Sunday, December 15th, 4 p.m. at Central Reform Temple, 15 Newbury St., Boston
Central Reform Temple extends a special welcome to Old South Church in Boston for the 11th annual “A Light Through the Ages,” a celebration of Chanukah. 

ADVENT FAMILY SERVICE PROJECT
Saturday, Dec. 21st at 9 a.m.
We are collecting small toiletries, hand warmers, gloves, socks, mittens, hats, scarves, and monetary donations. Physical items should be new, and can be brought to the 4th floor and left under the church school check-in desk. RSVP to Kate at children@oldsouth.org.
