The True Spirit of Christmas

As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, Old South has several opportunities to give to the wider community. Beginning on November 13th, a Christmas tree will be near the reception desk decorated with ornaments. Each ornament will have instructions for a gift for one of the gift drives listed below. You can select an ornament from the tree or you can participate in the options below.

  • Memorial Donations to Allston-Brighton Food Pantry: We are collecting donations for our Christmas Memorial Bulletin. This bulletin will include your messages in honor or in celebration of your loved ones. Donations of $20 or more can be given through Old South Church’s Giving Portal. The Christmas Memorial Bulletin will be printed and put out on December 21st. For any questions, reach out to Remy Hatfield-Gardiner at remy@oldsouth.org
  • Toys for Children:
    • Housing 4 Justice: Bring new, unwrapped toys for ages 0-12 (soft toys, puzzles, Legos, games, etc) to the collection box in the narthex by Dec. 14. Justice 4 Housing provides advocacy and housing services for people affected by incarceration and domestic abuse.
    • Boston Healthcare for the Homeless: New toys, clothing, toiletries, household items, and more! Purchase a gift through the BHCHP Family Clinic Amazon Wishlist
  • Coat Donations:
    • Coat Boston: We are not collecting coats at the church this year. Coats and winter gear can be purchased through the Coat Boston Amazon Wish List.
    • Coats for Adults: In collaboration with New England Culinary Arts Training, we are collecting coats for adults participating in their program which supports adults who face barriers to employment through training in culinary skills. Please purchase through this Amazon Wish List.
  • Ralph’s Gift Boxes for Unhoused Neighbors: This annual service project has been renamed in memory of Ralph Watson, who began it. You can help in two ways:
    • Before Dec 17th: Donate new: small toiletries, hand warmers, warm socks, gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, and monetary donations (used for Dunkin Gift Cards). Bring items to the 4th floor and leave them under the church school check-in desk, or mail items to the church ℅ Kate Nintcheu. Monetary donations can be marked "Gift Boxes" and left for Kate at the front desk. https://tinyurl.com/RalphsGiftBoxes
    • On Saturday 12/20, we’ll gather at 9am to pack and wrap gifts and then deliver to our unhoused neighbors. While traditionally geared towards families with children - we encourage all donations and need adults to help on Saturday too! RSVP here if you'd like to come on 12/20.
