Christmas at Old South Church

This holiday season will surely be different than any we have experienced before. Our travels and gatherings are limited or cancelled, and beloved traditions like sharing a special meal with loved ones have become downright dangerous. Whether you are quarantining alone or have others in your pod, Old South is here with you this holiday season, providing a variety of virtual programming, volunteer opportunities, and chances to connect with others in our community. So get cozy, hop online, and have yourself a merry little Christmas with Old South Church in Boston.

Livestreamed Christmas Services

Sunday, December 13 at 10am
The children of Old South make their camera acting debut in this original performance of the story of Jesus' birth. Coordinated by Children's Music Leader Amy Budka and incorporated into our regular Sunday All-Church Worship service, this pageant is sure to warm your heart and make you laugh.

While we’re bombarded with words lauding the wonders of the season, many people find the holidays anything but joyful. The season may be even more difficult as we wrestle with COVID-19 and isolation. Blue Christmas provides an opportunity to step away & let go into music and readings that acknowledge your feelings without trying to talk you out of them. Even if you love the holidays, you may find comfort in this special service.

Thursday, December 24th

    • 5:00 p.m. Candlelight Family Service: In lieu of our beloved in-person impromptu Christmas pageant, our young adults don costumes and perform a truly delightful rendition of this classic story. The program is perfect for children and adults alike.

This brief service features a special Christmas blessing. If you're still in your pajamas or if you've dressed your Christmas best; if your children are bouncing off the walls or if you're spending the day alone; if you slept in heavenly peace or if the holidays deprived you of sleep -- you are welcome here.

Join us for All-Church Worship, featuring the soulful tunes of the Willie Sordillo Ensemble, and chances to sing along to your favorite Christmas songs.

The Season of Giving: Opportunities to Give Back

City Mission is beginning its annual Coat Boston drive to provide Boston children with warm winter coats. A new coat helps to warm the body and the soul during Boston’s cold winters. Last year we at Old South collected 75 coats for children in need with City Mission providing more than 1,400 coats overall! New, unused coats that are donated to Coat Boston will be given directly to Boston schools and organizations that serve Boston youth.

You can send new winter coats by ordering from the wish lists below and shipping them to First Parish of Westwood, Attn: City Mission, 252 Nahatan St, Westwood, MA 02090 by November 13th.

In addition, you may make a donation directly to City Mission and designate its use for Coat Boston.
