Mezzo-soprano Jamie Chelel is a versatile artist equally at home in solo, ensemble, and operatic repertoire. She has served as a Choral Fellow at Old South since 2018, and recent performance credits include work with Odyssey Opera, Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO), and Nightingale Vocal Ensemble. In the 2024-2025 academic year she served as an artist in residence at Boston Conservatory at Berklee and Berklee College of Music, collaborating with student composers and singers to record and perform new vocal works. Jamie holds a degree in Vocal Performance from Boston Conservatory at Berklee and is currently pursuing graduate studies at Harvard.

By day, Jamie is a creative at MIT, where she develops resources that help K-12 teachers bring hands-on learning into their classrooms. She is delighted to bring her expertise in pedagogy and music together as director of the Children’s Choir. Through this role, she hopes to nurture young singers’ skills, self-confidence, and love of singing.
